Andrew Wegleitner has been producing and hosting a recurring showcase in the Experimental Thinking Center Theater at Brave New Workshop for the 2 years. He placed third in 2014 Funniest Person with a Day Job Contest at Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy, second in 2012 Acme’s Funniest Person in the Twin Cities Contest, and most importantly 2nd in the 2013 Funniest Person in Coon Rapids contest at Willy’s Bar and Grill, in Coon Rapids, MN
When he started doing stand-up at The Comedy Club on State in Madison, WI, for the first couple years his career saw little success as his crippling alcoholism prevented him from delivering a solid performance or having the clear thinking and motivation to put together any decent written material. In 2011 he was given “The Nick Nolte Award” by his peers in honor of this debilitating handicap. However, after joining the staff at Brave New Workshop Comedy Theater in Mineapolis he found other comedians who were recovering addicts. They applied the principles of improv to daily life helping them maintain the type of mindset needed to achieve sobriety. He has now been sober for five years, but he still smokes weed and does mushrooms sometimes.
His style of comedy is based on personal experience and introspection, his struggles with addiction, and the woes of working and performing. It’s self deprecating but high energy and fun at times with plenty of crazy antics and silly one liners interlaced. He’s funny, you’ll laugh at his shit. I would recommend booking him for your show.
